Picking the Best Men's Ties: Patterns and Colors
Feb 07, 2024

Since business suits often come in black, grey, or navy and are worn with white or blue shirts, neckwear is an easy way to add patterns or pops of color. Three things to consider when matching a tie to a shirt and suit are as follows:
Patterns for neckties
It's crucial that no two pieces of clothing have the same pattern size and, to a lesser extent, pattern kind when it comes to pattern coordination. The width of the stripes on your tie should not be the same as the spacing between stripes on a shirt, which is known as pattern size. When two closely similar patterns are combined, the visual impact may not be very pleasing.
Conversely, a refined appearance can be achieved with a pin-striped suit combined with a faint pattern, a white business shirt, and a tie with an intricate pattern. By placing a pocket square in the breast pocket that matches the color of your outfit, you can dress it up.
This rule is applicable when arranging three or five patterns, and it is especially crucial when managing three patterns.
The color of the necktie When thinking about color coordination, try to think of it in terms of putting together ensembles that are coherent and in which every hue works well together. Consider the suit as the main article of apparel that forms the basis of your ensemble. After that, match your shirts to the suit and choose ties that complement the entire outfit.
Matching specific ties
Due to their lack of distinguishing patterns, solid-colored ties are the easiest to coordinate because they can be used to complement any outfit. For instance, a solid burgundy tie looks great with both a light blue business shirt and a plain charcoal suit, as well as a checkered shirt and a navy pin-striped suit. Thus, plain ties made of cotton or wool provide a simple, laid-back style.
Skinny, contemporary-striped ties
Multiple narrow stripes in different hues are a common feature of contemporary Italian design ties. Make sure that the patterns and colors of these ties complement the way your entire ensemble looks while arranging them.
Traditional striped ties
A traditional stripe pattern has a straightforward layout with two striking hues. The tie looks good with a business shirt that has fine checks or narrow stripes spaced far apart. For example, a tie with stripes in cherry red and white looks great with suits of any color and a blue or white business shirt.
Ties with paisleys
Paisley motifs, with their teardrop shapes, are thought to have started in 16th-century Persia. In ancient Persia, paisley was a common textile motif used to embellish religious and royal clothes. According to legend, the young date palm shoots are the source of inspiration for paisley. In Hinduism and ancient Babylonia, the date palm represented fertility.
