Jun 24, 2024

In the European Championship, Scotland's dreams of making it to the tournament's knockout phase were dashed when they lost 1-0 to Hungary.
Following his entry as a late substitute, Kevin Csoboth successfully registered his first goal for Hungary during the tenth minute of stoppage time. Hungary concluded their participation in Group A by securing the third position, ranking behind the top-seeded teams of Germany and Switzerland.
Barnabás Varga suffered a serious injury, breaking multiple facial bones during the game. He is now in the hospital and may need surgery.
Varga won't play if Hungary gets 3 points and qualifies for the round of 16. It will be confirmed after the group games on Wednesday.
During a collision between Varga and Scotland goalie Angus Gunn, there was noticeable concern among the crowd. Varga had to be carefully transported on a stretcher after a brief delay of ten minutes, receiving encouraging applause from both sets of supporters. His teammates took precautions by shielding him with blankets while medical attention was given.
Germany secured the group victory by managing to equalize against Switzerland in the final moments of the match, resulting in a 1-1 draw.
Scotland was unable to advance in the group stage, earning only 1 point from a draw against Switzerland. They finished last in their group. In the opening match of Euro 2024, Germany achieved a resounding victory over Scotland with a score of 5-1.
During the game, Stuart Armstrong was knocked down by Willi Orbán. The Scottish players expressed their dissatisfaction when their penalty claims were dismissed. However, Argentine referee Facundo Tello decided to proceed with the game.
Opportunities were limited in Stuttgart, despite the evident urgency of both teams to secure a victory.
Scotland had a considerable amount of possession; however, their effectiveness with it was limited, and they faced difficulties in outmanoeuvring Hungary.
Hungary accumulated momentum and came close to securing the advantage prior to halftime. Orbán's header, resulting from Szoboszlai's free kick, struck the crossbar, potentially eluding an offside flag.
Despite holding 64% possession at halftime, Scotland failed to register any shots on goal, while Hungary managed to create five scoring opportunities.
In the 53rd minute, Clarke's team had an opportunity, but Ché Adams' shot was inaccurately lofted over the crossbar.
When Csoboth came into the game during the 86th minute, he nearly created an immediate impact by striking the distant post from a narrow angle.
During the match, a 10-minute stoppage period occurred, during which both goalkeepers were required to make saves, before Csoboth secured the victory.
Hungary's players and supporters showed immense delight when Csoboth initiated a counterattack, strategically surpassing Scotland in numbers and skillfully locating an unguarded Roland Sallai. Csoboth then continued into the designated region to accept the subsequent pass and successfully score in the nearby corner.
The Scottish players articulated their dismay as they proceeded towards the playing field.
